Hello blog! It's a semi-sunny Monday morning, and I'm a very blessed person today (and every day). I'm not working at all, so it's just me and Ezekiel hanging out. My plan is to go to Costco and Winco, do the laundry, cancel Vonage, and write in his baby book. I know, it sounds ambitious. But I also told myself when I got up this morning that whatever happens today is totally fine with me. Whatever kind of day Ezekiel has will be awesome.
Yesterday was our first day back at Santa Rosa since Ezekiel has joined us! It went very well, I'd say. He slept all the way there, and Nathanael and I started listening to 1776 on disc. We spent the afternoon at the Hilburns, although we had the house to ourselves for most of the day. We watched the first half and some of the 3rd quarter of the Superbowl. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it, I think it was because I liked watching it with Nathanael, and I felt comfortable asking whatever questions I wanted to, without feeling dumb. Ezekiel was a little bit of a pill during evening services, and I tried so hard to listen to Nathanael's lesson, because he was really excited about it, but I had to spend a lot of the time with him in the cry room. But I suppose thats not a bad thing, because he was so tired that he slept all the way home, too, and we continued listening to 1776. We picked Megan up at the airport on our way home, she was coming back from Florida. Overall, it was a great day, and I'm so glad that it went well, so I can look forward to going back!
Ezekiel is doing so many awesome things now. Well, maybe just a few, he's still not that old. Speaking of which, he's 8 weeks old today. It's hard to believe that 8 weeks ago, we were anxiously waiting for news of his birth. He's smiling much more now. In fact, we can get him to smile big pretty regularly. I like to bounce his cheeks around, and that gets him smiling almost every time. It's so exciting! It's like a drug, I feel like I can't get enough of him smiling at me. And once yesterday, while he was eating, he looked up at me at smiled, but I'm not sure if that was a fluke. It's going to be awesome when he smiles at me just because I'm his mommy. He's also started to drool a bit in the last week. Which, on the other hand, I don't like at all. I was hoping he wouldn't be a drooler, but it looks like no such luck. So today, I put a bib on him to spare his outfit. His hair is still growing, and is totally awesome. It hasn't started to fall out at all, and I hope it doesn't. He woke up on Friday morning with a goupy eye. I was at work, so Nathanael talked to his pediatrician, and he said it is probably a clogged tear duct. So I picked up a prescription for some ointment after work, and I have to put it in 3 times a day for 5 days. The first time was a bit traumatic, but it's gotten much better after that. He really doesn't mind too much.
We went for a walk again on Saturday, to the library. It was our 3rd Saturday in a row that we did that, it's a fun little routine we have, although we won't be able to do it this weekend, we're going to the Higgins.
I finished reading The Baby Whisperer. I loved it, and have used a lot of the ideas from it. I decided it will be the last "infancy" parenting book I will read, I don't want to get overwhelmed with parenting advice. I feel like I have a good handle on how to do things now. The next books I will probably read will be on discipline, but that won't be for a while.
Robyn was here for 5 days a while ago. It was a nice visit, we all enjoyed having her here. It really is always nice to have an extra person around to help out, and I love going out on dates now with Nathanael. I cherish it so much more than I ever did before. So when she was here, we went out to Red Robin, and then downtown to a tea shop where we sit and had some tea, and then we went to Borders. It was a really fun night. Her and Dan are planning on coming down sometime in March.
Speaking of March, plans are underway for Nathanael's 30th birthday party! I'm planning an overnight camping trip with some of his guy friends, and then lunch at the house with the wives and kids as well. It should be fun.
My birthday was a week ago today. It feels great to be 33! Barbara came over in the morning for coffee, we had a nice visit. It so happened that Ezekiel had a troubling afternoon, and I was a little frazzled by the time Nathanael got home. We ended up making it over to the Zugnonis to drop Ezekiel off, so we could go out again! We went to Mikuni (always a birthday favorite in our family), and we went over to the Mowrers to play Ticket to Ride. Nathanael bought me a beautiful jewelry box from Pier 1 that I love, and all my jewelry fits perfectly into it. I've been wanting one for so long! Overall, it was a great birthday.
Last week was my first week taking Ezekiel over to the Fuson's with me. Both days went really well. Josh is very independent and easy going, so it was not difficult with both of them. I'm actually glad that Ezekiel gets a change of scenery on those days. He really seems to like looking around when he is in new places. And it's good for me to be up and out of the house early, even though I seem to be especially tired on those days. But so far, I am enjoying it. Babysitting Zachary is another story. I did that for 3 hours last week, and it was kind of stressful. I don't know if that is worth it. But I will keep doing it, and hopefully it will get easier.
I feel so blessed to have so many people in my life that are so eager to babysit Ezekiel. Angie watched his last week while I went to my dentist appointment, and she said she didn't think it was quite enough time with him, so she is going to watch him when I go into the law firm on the 16th from 1-6. As I mentioned, Letitia watched his last Monday, and Mary Ellen watched him for another afternoon I went into the law firm. And I still have a few other people in mind, for when I need any more sitters.
