Wake me up when September ends....

Rhetorical Question of the day: I'd like to reflect on summer of 2019, but things are moving so quickly into fall, when will I do that?

A few bits and pieces to get my brain in blog mode again...

  • I took a new friend to a Portland Thorns  game with me last month. I knew we'd have fun, but I didn't know how good for my spirit it would be. We watched soccer ( a little) and had insightful conversation (a lot). I learned a lot about her and from her, and there is still much more to learn. I have discovered that is something I truly value in friendship...someone from whom I can learn things about and who, in the process, teaches me things about myself.

  • In the last 2 weeks, lots of new and exciting things have begun! School, soccer practice and games, DJ lessons, cub scouts....to name a few of the major ones. It's fun and tiring. Scheduling it all is a job all by itself, isn't it? Last week, I completely forgot about Ezekiel's DJ lesson, until they called me to ask if we were coming. We weren't. Upon realization of this, and being old enough now to be aware if these details, Ezekiel was disappointed and upset. I made a mistake in an area where I don't normally make mistakes, and this provided me with the opportunity to exercise a skill that I still find difficult and daunting at times...offering a humble apology to my child and admitting I make mistakes.

  • The boys really want to sell popcorn door to door this year, so we went out for a practice run after dinner one night this week. Atticus practiced a few times, then walked right up to the first door, knocked, and said, "Hi, my name is Atticus, I'm raising money for Cub Scouts to go to summer camp. Would you like to buy some popcorn?" In his tiny little voice. Bless their hearts, they bought popcorn from him. Once he collected their money and he handed them their bag of popcorn, he ran out to the street where Ezekiel and I waited for him, and he started jumping up and down, "I did it! I did it!" My heart was so proud of this little boy.

  • At the same time things feel really hectic with school and extracurricular activities, the first few weeks of school being in session also feel....luxurious. The grocery shopping by myself, quiet hours at home getting things done, working out. There's a lot of time I spend in my head. I've really been enjoying my audio book, something I haven't done that much of in the past. Planning for the new school year and considering all the bright possibilities gets me excited.

Stay classy and thanks for stopping by.

Misty
