So much has happened! I’ll have to try to remember it all now.
Brooke was the first birth mom to see our profile book that we made for Dana. A couple of Saturdays ago we finished the profile book for Dana, separately than the one that we are making for Lifetime, since they have a very specific formula, and we were still waiting for them to respond to our draft of our dear birth mother letter. But Dana kept asking for one, because she might be going to visit a birth mom at a moments notice. So we hurried up and threw one together, and took it over to her house on a saturday afternoon. She said it was great. At that point, she had told us about a birth mother in Oregon who had already given birth that she was going to be going to see soon. What I don’t remember is, and I’m upset that I haven’t kept up on my blogging so I would remember, when we first heard about Brooke. But at some point, Dana sent our book to an 18 year old birth mother in the Memphis area. We had some trouble getting the book to her via email for a few days, but eventually, she was able to see it. On May 7th, Brooke responded to Dana about our book, and said this,
“I have to say wow on this one. They seem more down to earth than the others I’ve seen. And the guy definitely seems like he’d be a funny one!”
And we were super excited about that! So the Sunday after that, this past Sunday, Dana approached us at church and said that Brooke really likes us, but she wants to see more stuff! More pictures, video, whatever. So we came home that afternoon, and Nathanael put together a website of more information on us. We picked out a few of his video blogs that might be good for her to see, and put more pictures of us, and wrote a little bit more. It’s times like that that I am the most proud of Nathanael. He had something ready to send to Dana that afternoon, and Brooke saw it that same day. There is really no one better for that kind of a job than Nathanael. So here is what Brooke said about the website!
“So I just checked out that website and WOW!!!! The videos were SO cool, and I think I’m in love w/ her husband…. lol j/k. He is too funny, I’m showing the website to JayC!!”
JayC is the baby’s father. So that was exciting for us to see as well! So we’ve been thinking and praying about Brooke a lot this week. Praying that she will choose us, but more importantly, praying that she will choose a Christian family for her baby, if she ends up not choosing us. Dana has told us a little bit about the Christians in the Memphis area who Brooke has come in contact with, and who have helped Brooke out so far in some way, and it’s so touching to hear those stories. I find myself wanting to know more and more about her and her life. Oh, if I haven’t mentioned it, she is due in September.
So then! It’s Friday, yesterday. We get yet another email from Dana, saying Brooke wants more! More stuff on me, specifically. She says, we know that Brooke loves us, but we need to give her and JayC more on me. Is it hard to believe that most of the videos we have are about Nathanael? Hmm. Probably not. She said we need to get them to see how cute we are together as a couple, with more emphasis on me being fun and carefree and happy. So of course, Nathanael is on the job! He came home early from work yesterday, and started working on a video blog of why he fell in love with me. We took some video and he got some of it done yesterday, and he’ll be finishing it up today, so we can post it on the website. And then Dana emailed us again, and said Brooke wants to know our ages, and what our favorite things are.
It’s hard to know what all of this will mean…but I have to say, I was more excited yesterday when I got that email from Dana than I have been about just about anything! I’m not sure why, but I felt really good that Brooke was asking for so much stuff about us. That has to be good! And it’s kind of fun, trying to come up with more information about us, to make us look as fun and interesting as possible, and for Nathanael and I, together, to try to paint a picture of our lives for Brooke. It’s really fun.
So that just about brings us up to the present time. I’m constantly thinking about Brooke, and praying for her, that she makes a wise decision. And I must say, I hope that wise decision is us, but I know if she doesn’t, there it wasn’t meant to be, and God has something else planned for us. I’ll keep you updated on what happens next!
On a less interesting note, we finally got feedback from our adoption coordinator on our DBL, from Lifetime. There are not too many changes that we need to make, so we just need to create the profile book with pictures for Lifetime, according to their formula. We got a CD of the professional photos back from Posey, and I think we have enough “action photos”, so we can put all those on a CD and send them into Lifetime as well. That is almost all that we have to do for them, to be ready to present us to birth mothers. Then, we just have to figure out how to pay them the rest of their fee. But I have to say, it’s not nearly as much fun working with Lifetime as it is with Dana. It seems so much more robotic and structured. It’s been fun working with Dana, because it’s been fun and spontaneous and exciting. I haven’t felt that working with Lifetime. It’s probably due to the fact that they are such a big organization, and we are just a little fish in a big pond, and we have to do things exactly the way they tell us to. Nobody there gets nearly excited for us as Dana does. :)
Whew, thats a lot! I’ll try to update more frequently, so I don’t get behind!
